About the job

This position has the primary responsibility to support the Nutriology® team within Omnia Fertilizer in conducting exploratory, reconnaissance and detailed soil surveys. This includes gathering of field data, compiling of soil maps, writing of reports and feedback sessions with clients. Other support functions include training of new agronomists, database management and soil physical data related queries.

Overview The Omnia Agriculture division’s range of specialised products and solutions are encompassed by its unique Nutriology® offering, which assists clients to improve crop yield and quality. OMNI-PRECISE® plays a pivotal role in this offering through a wide range of customised solutions and precision farming technologies.
Qualifications •    A minimum of a M.Sc. Agriculture degree in Soil Science
•    A tertiary qualification in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) will be an   added advantage
Experience •    Minimum of 3 years working experience in a relevant field
•    High level of GIS knowledge, including the use of ESRI suite (ArcGIS), QGIS and Google Earth applications
•    Knowledge in Ag Leader® SMS™ software will be an added advantage
•    Track record of managing projects and achieving goals
Duties •    Soil classification maps and reports
•    Agricultural spatial data management
•    Working with the agronomic field team
•    Remote sensing data management
•    Translating raw data into agricultural solutions
•    GIS mapping
Job Competencies
  • Strong ability to work independently.
  • Strong understanding of fertilizer crop requirements.
  • Strong understanding of agronomic principles including soil chemistry, soil physics, agronomy, plant physiology and crop nutrient management.
  • Creative thinker.
  • Excellent language skills (written and verbal English and Afrikaans).
  • Ability to lead and take initiative.
