Data Center Genset Engineer

  • Relevant experience: 6 years or more of experience in installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of diesel generator sets.

Summary:

  • Responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of DG (Diesel Generator) systems and related mechanical and electrical components. This includes monitoring operations, ensuring preventative maintenance is scheduled and performed, and troubleshooting malfunctions in both mechanical and PLC/electrical systems. The role requires adherence to safety regulations, proper documentation, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor DG units and schedule regular maintenance.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical malfunctions, including PLC systems and alternators.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Inspect installations for efficiency and code compliance.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and inventory of parts.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and respond to customer complaints.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Report issues and recommend performance improvements.
  • Interpret technical blueprints and maintain adherence to codes.
  • Ensure timely procurement of parts and manage service truck inventory.

Skills & Requirements:

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of PLC systems and control strategies.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and follow codes.
  • Strong attention to safety and detail.
  • Effective communication and reporting skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high plant availability and performance.

Education/ Required Qualifications :

  • Higher National Diploma/National Diploma/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a Technikon or university of technology accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the SAQC.
  • N3-N6/Equivalent in Mechanical Engineering/ Diesel Generators accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the SAQC.
  • Professional Engineering Technician/Equivalent Field experience accredited by Engineering Council of South Africa
  • Valid and Recognized Trade test accredited by Engineering Council of South Africa
