RCL Foods, a leading South African food manufacturer, is offering an exciting Industrial Engineering Internship opportunity for graduates looking to gain experience in manufacturing efficiency, data analysis, and continuous improvement.

As an intern, you’ll be immersed in real-world projects focused on optimizing production, reducing waste, and enhancing operational performance using data-driven methods and industry best practices such as Lean and DMAIC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Resource Usage vs Production Efficiency Reports
    Use Power BI (preferred) or Excel to compile reports comparing resource input to production output. Analyze trends and provide insights to support decision-making.
  • Material Usage Variance
    Investigate material usage discrepancies, pinpoint root causes, and recommend practical solutions to minimize waste and optimize resources.
  • Time & Motion Studies
    Conduct on-site evaluations of production tasks and workflows to identify bottlenecks and improve overall efficiency.
  • Lean and DMAIC Application
    Use Lean principles and the DMAIC framework (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) to implement and sustain continuous improvement initiatives.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

  • A qualification in Industrial Engineering or related field
  • Proficiency in Power BI and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Interest in process optimization and data visualization
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma/DMAIC methodologies
  • Excellent time management, reporting, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
