Mafube Coal is an opencast thermal coal mine in South Africa, operated as a 50/50 joint venture between Exxaro and Thungela Resources Limited. The mine is situated in the Mpumalanga province, approximately 30 km east of Middelburg. The mine complex includes reserves across several farms, including Nooitgedacht, Springboklaagte, Roodepoort, and Patattafontein. The mine includes a coal handling and processing plant. The “Mafube Life Extension” project, completed around 2019, added a 7 km overland conveyor to transport raw coal from the Nooitgedacht pit to the processing plant at Springboklaagte.
