The deal significantly expanded Afrimat’s footprint in the metropolitan construction sector.

The Afrimat Mechanical Engineering Learnership Programme 2025 provides practical exposure for students pursuing mechanical engineering studies — helping them develop the skills, knowledge, and technical expertise required to excel in the engineering and mining industries.

Minimum Qualification / Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered:

  • Must be currently studying towards a Mechanical Engineering qualification
  • Must be willing to learn and undergo structured training
  • Must possess administrative and Microsoft Office skills
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and show initiative
  • Must be medically fit in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful learners will be expected to:

  • Complete the vacation work programme as part of practical learning
  • Assist with maintenance projects within the plant
  • Help improve maintenance efficiency and plant availability
  • Conduct tests on products, analyse results, and identify areas for improvement
  • Perform safety inspections within the plant and surrounding work areas
  • Identify and propose cost-saving initiatives
  • Assist with general maintenance activities and engineering support tasks
