The Ombud for Financial Services Providers (FAIS Ombud) is a statutory body in South Africa that provides an alternative dispute-resolution process for financial customers. The Ombud’s office investigates and resolves complaints against financial services providers (FSPs) for alleged misconduct. The FAIS Ombud resolves disputes in a procedurally fair, informal, and timely manner, based on what is equitable under the circumstances.

The Office of the Ombud for Financial Services Providers (established under the FAIS Act 37 of 2002) is recruiting Finance Graduate Trainees for a structured 12-month programme designed to build a pipeline of competent entrants into the financial services labour market. Successful candidates will learn under a dedicated mentor within the Finance Department and receive competency-based training.

Key Performance Areas

• Financial Administration: Capture/process journals, cashbooks, invoices, petty cash; maintain fixed asset register; file financial records.
• Reconciliations: Balance sheet accounts, creditors, study advances, age analysis.
• Payment Runs: Support weekly supplier payments and timely processing.
• Audit Support: Prepare audit files, schedules, and documents for internal/external auditors.
• Stakeholder Support: Provide financial insights and assistance to internal departments.

Minimum Requirements

• South African citizen with valid ID
• National Diploma or Degree in Accounting (NQF 6 / NQF 7)
• Strong academic background; passion for public service & the financial sector
• Able to work under pressure; willing to learn and work extra hours
• Energetic, self-driven, deadline-driven
• Computer literate
