It provides bulk potable water to a region spanning over 37,000 square kilometers, serving more than 18 million people in Gauteng and parts of Mpumalanga, the Free State, and the North West provinces. Rand Water purifies and distributes large quantities of bulk water to municipalities, industries, and mines.

Rand Water is offering an exciting 18-month Supply Chain Practitioner Learnership Programme designed to equip learners with the necessary knowledge, practical skills, and workplace experience to function effectively as Procurement Officers.

This programme aims to contribute to Rand Water’s strategic human capital development while addressing youth unemployment and empowering people with disabilities.

Number of positions: 10 (including 5 reserved for people with disabilities)

Programme Overview

The qualification prepares learners to:

  • Coordinate the procurement and supply of goods and services.
  • Manage supplier relationships and contracts.
  • Monitor and implement procurement schedules.

Duration: 18 months

Minimum Requirements

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be unemployed and not enrolled in any other institution or learnership programme.
  • Not hold a post-matric qualification. (Failure to disclose such qualifications will result in disqualification.)
  • Have Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematical Literacy and English (minimum Level 4 for both subjects).
  • Be a South African citizen with a valid South African ID.
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old (in line with NSDSIII).
  • Provide a SAQA / NLRD verification report (obtainable from the SAQA website).

For Persons with Disabilities (PWDs):

  • Applicants who are deaf or hard of hearing must provide their own interpreters (at their own cost).
  • A valid proof of disability (Doctor’s Certificate or ITRDD13 form signed by a registered medical doctor) must accompany the application.

Primary Duties

During the learnership, participants will:

  • Develop and maintain operational schedules for procurement and supply.
  • Manage procurement and supply contracts and relationships.
  • Monitor and evaluate procurement performance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attending classroom sessions and participating in activities.
  • Completing assignments, projects, and assessments.
  • Maintaining a practical logbook to demonstrate applied knowledge.

Required Skills and Attributes

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of Rand Water’s mandate and its role in the water sector.

Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Attitude:

  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and results-driven.
