We are seeking a Desktop Support Intern to join our Information Technology (IT) team for a 6+ month internship. In this role, you will be responsible for providing support to users with catalog service requests, handling software and hardware installations, and maintaining our IT infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, possess a strong problem-solving attitude, and have a keen interest in gaining hands-on experience in IT support.
Key Responsibilities:
1. User Support & Incident Management:
- Answer, evaluate, and prioritize logged requests for assistance from users needing support with catalog service requests.
- Log and track incidents using our incident management database.
- Handle problem recognition, research, isolation, resolution, and follow up on routine user problems.
- Refer more complex issues to the Senior ICT Support team.
2. Software & Hardware Installations and Support:
- Install desktop and laptop computers with the relevant authorized software and ensure all documentation is completed.
- Install and configure hardware peripherals such as monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives.
- Set up and support IT equipment for boardrooms or training purposes.
- Conduct regular testing of video conferencing and IT equipment, resolving any issues promptly.
3. Administrative Functions:
- Liaise with service providers regarding IT equipment repairs and maintenance.
- Administer and update the hardware and software asset register, including asset disposal.
- Manage the software license bank and ensure compliance.
- Maintain the IT store room, server room, and office environment, keeping the space clean, organized, and free from any health and safety risks.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum Education: Higher Certificate / Occupational Certificate Level 5 (NQF Level 5), A+ or N+ certification.
- Experience: No prior experience required (Internship position).
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to assist and communicate effectively.
- Proficiency in computer literacy and systems administration.
- Time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Ability to work in a pressured environment and meet deadlines.
- Flexibility in working hours when required.
- Driver’s license and own transport.
