Khumani Iron Ore Mine is an open cast mine, located approximately 30km south of the town of Kathu and 250km west of the town of Kimberley, in the Northern Cape province. Assmang is jointly owned and controlled by Assore Limited and African Rainbow Minerals Limited. Khumani mine is Assmang’s primary iron-ore producer. At Khumani Mine there are two basic types of ore, Laminated hematite ore and conglomerate ore, which are exported at 64% FE content via the Saldanha Bay iron ore bulk terminal.
Assmang Khumani Mine is offering bursaries for undergraduate students who wish to pursue a career in the mining sector. If you meet the criteria, this bursary can help cover the financial burden of your studies and set you on a path to success.
Fields of Study
Bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate studies in the following fields:
Mining-related fields:
- Electronic Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mine Surveying
- Mining Engineering
- Occupational Hygiene / Environmental Health
- Occupational Therapy
- Rock Engineering / Geo-Tech
Non-mining related fields:
- Any field of study
Bursary Coverage
The bursary will provide financial coverage for:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed books and textbooks
- Laptop
- Accommodation
- Meals
- Monthly allowance
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Assmang Khumani Mine Bursary, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Be studying or intend on studying full-time in one of the fields listed above
- For mining-related studies: attend an accredited University or University of Technology registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training
- For non-mining-related studies: attend an accredited University, University of Technology, or College registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training
- Intend to pursue a career within the mining sector
- Preference will be given to students residing in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District (i.e., Gamagara, Ga-Segonayane, and Joe Morolong Local Municipality) in the Northern Cape province
