The BMA was formally established as Schedule 3A Public Entity on 1 April 2023. This follows the President’s assent of the BMA Act, 2020 in July 2020.
The BMA is a newly established arm of South Africa’s public service, playing a critical role in border control, security, and operations. Operating under the Constitution of South Africa (Section 199(3)), the BMA is committed to ensuring the safety and integrity of the country’s borders. Position: Drivers (Heavy Duty Vehicle)
Salary: R167,883 – R204,379 (Basic Salary)
The BMA is seeking qualified drivers to operate buses and heavy motor vehicles. The role requires individuals who can maintain high standards of safety, responsibility, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Maintenance and Reporting: You’ll need to ensure vehicles are in good condition by performing daily pre- and post-trip inspections, reporting incidents or accidents, and maintaining vehicle logs for fuel, mileage, and other operational aspects.
- Transport and Delivery: Safely transport staff, documents, and goods to various locations, ensuring all deliveries are made in a timely manner.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, government regulations, and internal procedures. You will also manage the movement of sensitive documents securely.
- Customer Service: Assist guests with disabilities, provide a professional service to clients, and ensure a safe, hygienic, and secure environment.
- Work Schedule Flexibility: Flexibility in working hours is essential, including potential overtime as required by the role.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Educational Requirements: Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent (NQF 4).
- Driving Licence: Code EC (unendorsed) driver’s license and a Professional Driving Permit (PDP) for categories P & G.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years driving experience with buses and/or heavy motor vehicles.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with the Border Management Authority Act, Road Safety Regulations, Public Service Regulations, and general government systems.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime.
- Strong attention to detail, especially regarding vehicle maintenance, safety regulations, and customer service.
