Johannesburg Water SOC Ltd (JW) is a municipal entity incorporated on 21 November 2000 and commenced business on 1 January 2001 as an independent company, with the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) as its sole shareholder.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and control the daily Laboratory analysis, routine and non-routine, according to rosters to maximise efficiency.
- Avail yourself for emergency analysis after hours when required. Identify and report on the need for new or replacement items to be added to the CAPEX budget.
- Obtain quotes and assist with preparation of specification for purchases or tenders.
- Ensure adequate stock levels by placing orders for Laboratory consumables timeously. Conduct daily complex analytical analyses in the Laboratory, using specialised instrumentation such as ICP-MS, GC-MS, ICP-OES, PCR, FIA and Discrete Analyser on drinking water, wastewater, and sludge samples.
- Capture, prepare and submit analytical results through the LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) within the required turnaround times. Evaluate Laboratory data on a daily basis using relevant mathematical and statistical analysis.
- Undertake research and initiate development work if and when required.
- Research and develop analytical techniques and supervise their implementation and if permitted, publish in relevant scientific journals. Conduct general and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment as scheduled.
- Conduct method development and validation to meet targets and accreditation objectives within specified time frames. Avail yourself during on-going internal and external audits.
- Participate in Proficiency Testing Schemes. Investigate root cause of non-conformances registered during internal and external audits as well as deviations from the Quality Management System and implement corrective actions. Verify and calibrate Laboratory equipment according to SOP’s.
- Undergo internal and external assessments and be a Technical Signatory approved by SANAS. Access, interpret, evaluate and authorize Laboratory results and data
- Supervise daily activities of Laboratory Assistants, Laboratory Aides and Workers to ensure compliance to Quality Management System requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS: ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- National Diploma Chemistry / Applied Chemistry / Analytical Chemistry (NQF 6)
- Become a Technical Signatory within a maximum of 18 months from date of appointment.
- 3 years in a SANAS Accredited Water / Chemical Laboratory Working knowledge of ISO 17025
