RCL FOODS’ sugar division is a major producer of sugar products in South Africa, operating under the well-known Selati brand. The company operates several sugar factories and supplies sugar to both consumers and the food processing industry. The sugar operations are centered on the Selati brand, which has been in South African households for over 40 years.

RCL FOODS Sugar is launching a structured artisan apprenticeship to build scarce engineering skills in the sugar industry. Successful candidates will receive institutional training and on-the-job experience across factory sections, with assessments each year and a final Trade Test leading to a nationally recognised qualification.

Programme Outline

• Institutionalised training at the Industrial Training Centre (Mount Edgecombe) — ± 20 weeks
• Factory exposure/training during operations & off-crop — ± 29 weeks
• Annual Mini Trade Test (phase test) to confirm progression
• Final Trade Test on successful completion

Contracts are fixed-term and renewal depends on satisfactory progress and performance.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric) and at least N3 or NCV Level 4 (N4+ is an advantage)
• Required subjects: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics, Electrical Technology / Electrotechnology / Electrotechnics
• Medically fit for a factory/mining-type environment
• Young, self-motivated, able to work independently and in teams

Key Responsibilities

• Attend and complete all scheduled institutional training
• Rotate through factory sections for practical exposure
• Adhere to safety, quality and operational procedures
• Maintain training records and prepare for phase tests and final Trade Test
• Report to the Foreman (Electrical) / relevant trade supervisor
