Job Purpose

  • Perform routine and non-routine evaluation and analysis of Water and Wastewater samples through the application of specialized skills to conduct test, maintain laboratory and equipment, recording and distribution of outcomes

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Prepares the laboratory work area prior to conducting analysis in accordance with good laboratory practices (GLP) in order to prevent cross contamination and interference or any other adverse influences on laboratory activities.
  • Receiving and logging of scheduled and unscheduled samples into LIMS to ensure that the samples are uniquely identified and also that all required tests are added for analysis.
  • Preparing the received samples by following the sample per-treatment procedures thus ensuring that the determinant of interest is per-concentrated and can be analysed.
  • Setup laboratory equipment for the analysis of test methods as per working instructions and methods in order to analyses samples.
  • Performs laboratory analysis on scheduled, unscheduled, and ad hoc samples as per laboratory procedures, methods and work instructions in order to ascertain information on water quality for various laboratory customers.
  • Evaluate the significant difference in the results and retesting of samples that did not comply to a specified criterion thus ensuring that the reported results are a true representative of the sample received at the laboratory.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation within the allocated work area as per standard procedures and work instructions to ensure proper functioning of the equipment.
  • Conducts specified quality function in accordance to ISO 17025 thus ensuring that the laboratory continues to maintain its accreditation to the relevant certified body.
  • Preparation of quality control solutions used for internal quality control thus building level of confidence in the results that are generated in the laboratory.
  • Ensure timeous requisition of chemicals required (namely, reagents, standard solutions and reference materials) and that are stored according to their prescribed conditions.
  • Performance of administrative duties and other laboratory activities pertaining to safety in order to ensure that work is undertaken safely, efficiency and timeously.
  • Performs additional function on the LIMS in order to ensure that the laboratory activities are complying with the ISO standard.
  • Prepare ad hoc and waste water treatment works (WWTW) samples to support laboratory activities

Essential Requirements

  • Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Microbiology or Biotechnology or Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.
  • 2 Years relevant experience.

Preferred Requirements

  • 3 Years relevant experience.
