Petra Diamonds' metallurgy operations in South Africa focus on the recovery of diamonds from kimberlite ore bodies at its mines, Cullinan and Finsch.

Petra Diamonds’ metallurgy operations in South Africa focus on the recovery of diamonds from kimberlite ore bodies at its mines, Cullinan and Finsch. Metallurgy is a key part of the mining process and involves the separation of diamonds from the raw ore. Metallurgical processes are specifically engineered for the extraction of rough diamonds. The technology at the Cullinan mine, for example, is highly technical to maximize the value of the stones.

The Metallurgy Learnership Programme offers structured, hands-on training within Petra Diamonds’ Ore Processing Plant. The programme is designed to expose learners to real-world mining operations while developing their technical and professional skills in metallurgy and ore processing.

Learners will gain experience in performing physical tasks in the plant environment, including working at heights and in confined spaces, under the guidance of experienced mentors. This opportunity forms part of Petra Diamonds’ broader commitment to developing mining skills and building sustainable careers in South Africa’s mineral processing sector.
