The purpose of this role is to manage the Mechanical, Boiler making and electrical part of the Factory and manage the mechanical, electrical and instrumentation departments to uphold all mechanical and electrical machinery to a high standard of safety and reliability. Additionally, the purpose of this role is to manage the practical implementation/ execution of key projects including that of the boiler making/ fabrication team.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure efficient Maintenance and quality maintenance to all mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment.
- Drive implementation and execution of key projects in tandem with the technical team.
- Drive development and execution of HAZLOC strategy.
- Ensure adequate holding and maintenance of critical spares.
- Conduct engineering problem-solving to maintain high equipment uptime.
- Ensure team engagement by executing monthly one-one discussion to ensure individual KPI’s are tracked.
- Maintain maintenance budget expenditure to within the approved thresholds.
- Co-ordinate and allocate work to subordinates.
- Deliver the mechanical, electrical, instrumentation workshop’s performance objectives together with project execution.
- Facilitate training of sub-ordinates.
- Provide 24-hour coverage for mechanical and electrical engineering related matters.
- Ensure maintenance management activities are done in accordance with the workorder system.
- Maintain a professional working relationship with all stakeholders (internal & external).
- Write work instructions and conduct planned job observations.
- Manage department overtime to within thresholds.
- Maintain an effective team-work culture and carryout disciplinary code of practice as and when necessary- Drive performance and accountability.
- Safety / Housekeeping Conducts engineering activities in accordance with the OHS Act 85, 1993 and related company safety protocols.
- Conduct GMR2.7 audits as an appointed GMR2.7 in the areas designated and ensure all findings are closed out.
- Ensure compliance with safe work procedures and related safety protocols.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the workshop and in areas under depart control.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of a completed Matric AND N5 Mechanical Certificate AND Trade Test Certificate as Fitter or Fitter & Turner OR,
- Minimum of a completed Matric AND N5 Electrical Certificate AND Trade Test Certificate as an Electrician AND Master installation Electrician
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience in a similar role at a Supervisory level within the Milling Industry.
- The successful Candidate will be self-motivated with strong Leadership abilities and impressive Planning & Communication skills.
- Computer literate with a high technical aptitude and have in-depth knowledge of Flour Mill machinery & spares, as well as conducting structured root-cause analysis.
- Must have in-depth hands on and administrative experience with hazardous environments with both gas and dust risk.
Knowledge and Competencies:
- A working knowledge Computerised Maintenance Management Systems(CMMS). Specific preference is given to Pragma Onkey 5 (Onkey 5 Plus).
- Knowledge of Store Inventory Management Systems and techniques.
- An understanding of engineering machines components such as shafts, beraings , v-belts, drives, contactors, conveyors, motors, circuit breakers, etc.
- Knowledge of food safety standards is advantageous.
- Adhering to all safe working procedures available in the safety manuals.
- Good communication skills towards all levels within the company.
- Be a methodical and systematic worker, comfortable in an office environment with a fair amount of paperwork.
- Must have a pro-active problem-solving approach in the anticipation of problem areas and taking corrective actions to eliminate deviations.
- Be goal orientated, stable, show integrity and be able to make decisions under pressure.
- Effective leadership skills and experience in handling IR related problems.
