Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd is the South African state-owned public utility that generates, transmits, and distributes approximately 90% of the country’s electricity. The company has faced significant financial and operational challenges, including a debt crisis, widespread corruption, and continuous rolling blackouts known as “loadshedding”. Eskom operates numerous power stations, including coal-fired, nuclear, gas turbine, and hydroelectric plants. It also manages a vast network of transmission lines across the country.

The Learner Technicians programme is a structured learning opportunity for Pupil Technicians to obtain their Diploma in Chemical/Analytical Chemistry at TR2 level. The programme combines institutional learning with on-the-job training to prepare participants for a career within the energy sector.

Minimum Requirements

  • Fully completed S4 / S5 qualification in Chemical or Analytical Chemistry.
  • Must be a South African Citizen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in institutionalised and workplace training.
  • Gain technical exposure to Eskom’s policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Develop professional competencies through mentorship and practical assignments.

  • Knowledge: Familiarity with Eskom’s policies and procedures.
  • Skills: Communication, negotiation, interpersonal, and liaising skills.
  • Attributes: Integrity, professionalism, customer focus, politeness, promptness, energetic, self-starter, assertiveness, and teamwork.
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to work collaboratively.
