The Western Cape Department of Agriculture is primarily responsible for the promotion of agriculture in all its rich diversity in the Western Cape. It provides a wide range of development, research and support services to the agricultural community in the Western Cape. The department’s headquarters are situated on the historic farm, Elsenburg, in the picturesque Boland region. We also render services to new and commercial farmers and agri workers from our regional research farms, Further Education and Training Centres, extension offices and state veterinary offices.

Western Cape Department of Agriculture invites South African student to apply for Bursary Programme 2025 academic year.

Scholarship Programme for High School Students

Designed for learners in:

  • Grade 8-12 at Agricultural Schools
  • Grade 10-12 in Mainstream Schools

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen residing in the Western Cape.
  • Be studying Mathematics and Physical Science as subjects.
  • Demonstrate financial need, particularly from previously disadvantaged or impoverished backgrounds.
  • Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Bursary Programme for Undergraduate Studies

Fields of study supported include:

  • BSc Degrees: Agric Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, Animal Science, Food Science, Horticultural Science, Mechatronics Engineering, Veterinary Science, Viticulture and Oenology, and more.
  • National Diplomas: Agriculture, Farming Management.
  • Other related fields like Econometrics and Production Economics.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen residing in the Western Cape.
  • Completed schooling in the Western Cape.
  • Achieved the following academic levels:
    • Level 5 (60-69%) for Mathematics and Physical Science for Engineering, Veterinary Science, and Economics fields.
    • Level 4 (50-59%) for Mathematics and Physical Science for other fields.
  • Enrolled or provisionally accepted for full-time undergraduate studies at a recognised South African institution.
  • Be from a disadvantaged, impoverished, or rural community.
  • Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Benefits of the WCDOA Bursary and Scholarship

The bursary and scholarship will provide full or partial funding for:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation
  • Books
  • Meals
  • School uniforms (for scholarships)
  • An allowance (where applicable)

  1. Certified ID copy.
  2. Latest school report.
  3. Recommendation letter from your school.
  4. Acceptance letter to an Agricultural School (if applicable).
  5. Estimate of school fees, accommodation, meals, and materials.
  6. Parents or guardians’ certified ID copies.
  7. Proof of household income (payslips, UIF proof, affidavit, or social grant documentation).

  3. Academic record (if currently studying).
  4. Proof of university acceptance (if available).

  7. Proof of household income (payslips, UIF proof, affidavit, or social grant documentation).
