Eskom is the state-owned electricity public utility in South Africa, responsible for generating, transmitting, and distributing electricity to over 86% of the country’s population. It is Africa’s largest electricity producer and one of the largest in the world based on generating capacity. As South Africa’s primary electricity supplier, Eskom’s strategic role is to enable economic growth by providing a reliable and sustainable electricity supply. The company’s operations are divided into generation, transmission, and distribution divisions.

The Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative is a collaborative public-private partnership led by the Presidency to combat youth unemployment in South Africa. Eskom, as part of this initiative, is providing 12-month work experience opportunities for young South Africans eager to join the workforce and gain practical exposure within the energy sector.

Successful candidates will be placed in various Eskom operations across all provinces, gaining valuable skills and on-the-job experience that can serve as a stepping stone to a rewarding career.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Must be a South African citizen.
• Aged between 18 and 34 years old.
• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification and/or post-matric certificate/programme.
• Should not have been permanently employed with a single employer for more than 1 year.
• Should not be studying full time during the year of employment.
• Should not have participated or registered previously on the YES initiative.

Programme Duration

• Contract Period: 12 months
• Placement: Across Eskom operations in all nine provinces
