The DWS operates based on the mandate set out in South Africa’s National Water Act of 1998 and the Water Services Act of 1997.

Requirements and Expectations
Minimum Requirements
- An NQF Level 4 qualification (Senior Certificate/Grade 12 or equivalent).
- A Grade B PSIRA certificate.
- At least three (3) years of working experience in a security environment.
- The disclosure of a valid, unexpired driver’s license will serve as an added advantage.
- Knowledge of access control procedures and equipment movement control.
- Understanding of relevant security legislation and policies, including:
- OHS Act, Access Control Act, MISS, MPSS, and the Protection of Information Act.
- Good listening, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Computer literacy and report writing ability.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise security functions performed by contracted security personnel (Private Security Service Providers), ensuring adherence to departmental security policies and procedures.
- Provide administrative support and maintain control room operations.
- Ensure the protection of departmental assets and properties.
- Conduct preliminary investigations into security incidents.
- Perform unannounced inspections and visits to verify compliance with security standards.
