The Mpumalanga Department of Health is responsible for providing accessible, quality health services to the residents of the Mpumalanga province in South Africa. The department manages various healthcare facilities, including tertiary, regional, and district hospitals, across the Ehlanzeni, Nkangala, and Gert Sibande districts. The department’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of all people in the province, focusing on strategic goals such as increasing life expectancy and decreasing maternal and child mortality.

This youth-focused programme offers 15 internship opportunities, providing successful applicants with valuable workplace exposure, mentorship, and sector-specific experience in the public health environment. Interns will work for 12 months, receive a monthly stipend of R6 000, and gain skills that improve their employability across the health sector.

Available Internship Study Fields

Graduates with an NQF Level 6 or 7 qualification may apply in the following fields:

  • Human Resources Management
  • Public Management
  • Financial Management
  • Logistics / Records Management
  • Information Technology / Communication Science
  • Project Management
  • Public Administration

Note: Only qualifications relevant to the internship programme will be considered.

Requirements

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Be unemployed
  • Hold a recognised Degree or National Diploma (NQF 6/7)
  • Have never participated in an HWSETA-funded internship
  • Preferably reside within Mpumalanga Province
  • Be willing to undergo suitability checks and competency assessments
  • Provide a medical certificate if shortlisted
  • Candidates with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply
