Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the Pharmacist Assistant (Basic) Grade 2 posts, applicants must have:
- Grade 12 certificate
- Registration with SAPC as a Pharmacy Assistant (Basic)
- Current SAPC registration for 2025
Recommended:
- Valid Code B (08) Driver’s Licence
- Computer literacy (MS Office proficiency)
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Strong numerical ability
- Understanding of pharmaceutical processes
- Knowledge of prepacking, compounding, stock control, and dispensing
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Ability to maintain proper housekeeping in pharmacy environments
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Pharmacy Assistants will assist the Pharmacy Manager with:
Medicine Preparation & Manufacturing
- Prepacking medication
- Preparing documentation
- Cleaning tablet counters, spatulas, and manufacturing areas
- Compounding under pharmacist supervision
- Ordering raw materials and labels
Clinic Supply Management
- Issuing chronic medication
- Packing medicines for clinics
- Reviewing clinic orders
- Delivering medicines to facilities
Information & Support Services
- Providing medicine information to nurses & doctors
- Conducting staff in-service training
- Sharing health talks with patients
Pharmacy Housekeeping
- Cleaning shelves and refrigerators
- Ensuring maintenance schedules are followed
- Handling spills safely
- Supporting multi-month dispensing
