Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a qualified and professional Pharmacist to join its team at the Toti Centre store in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal. Key Responsibilities

Pharmaceutical Care Management

  • Take responsibility for evaluating and addressing patients’ medicine-related needs.
  • Assess the safety, effectiveness, and appropriateness of prescribed therapies.
  • Monitor patient compliance with treatment plans and provide ongoing support.
  • Ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes through evidence-based pharmaceutical care.
  • Promote responsible medicine use and patient safety.

Prescription Dispensing and Verification

  • Dispense prescription medications and scheduled substances in accordance with legal and professional requirements.
  • Accurately interpret prescriptions and ensure compliance with SAPC regulations.
  • Verify prescriptions prepared by pharmacist assistants and interns.
  • Accept accountability for the accuracy and legality of dispensed medications.
  • Ensure proper labelling, packaging, and storage of medications.

Patient Counselling and Education

  • Provide clear instructions regarding medication usage, dosage, and administration.
  • Educate patients on potential side effects, drug interactions, and precautions.
  • Explain medical aid costs and medication-related expenses.
  • Support patients in understanding chronic medication management plans.
  • Promote patient adherence to prescribed treatment regimens.

Clinical and Therapeutic Services

  • Provide pharmacist-initiated therapy where appropriate.
  • Assess minor ailments and recommend suitable treatment options.
  • Refer patients to healthcare practitioners or in-store clinics when necessary.
  • Support chronic disease management programmes.
  • Assist with HIV, AIDS, oncology, and chronic medication authorisations.

Medical Aid and Claims Administration

  • Process claims accurately and efficiently.
  • Resolve medical aid claim rejections and discrepancies.
  • Stay informed about medical aid policies and dispensing requirements.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and submitted on time.

Customer Service Excellence

  • Assist customers at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front shop.
  • Follow up on prescription tracking reports and customer enquiries.
  • Maintain professional and compassionate patient interactions.
  • Deliver exceptional service that enhances customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Inventory and Stock Management

  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Dispensary Manager.
  • Assist with stock control procedures and compliance requirements.
  • Facilitate bi-annual stock takes.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of pharmaceutical products.
  • Maintain accurate stock records and inventory controls.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Adhere to South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) standards.
  • Follow Dis-Chem policies, procedures, and standard operating processes.
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Uphold pharmaceutical ethics and professional standards.

Minimum Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) or equivalent qualification.
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in pharmaceutical practice.
  • 2–3 years of retail pharmacy experience, including student or internship experience.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office applications.

Advantageous Qualifications and Experience

  • Retail or FMCG industry experience.
  • SAP system knowledge.
  • E-scripting experience.
  • Registered Tutor status.
  • Unisolv system experience.
  • Proficiency in a third South African language.
