Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), or Doctors Without Borders, is an international, independent medical humanitarian organization founded in 1971. It provides life-saving medical care to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare in over 70 countries.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide emergency resuscitation and required urgent medical stabilisation of critical patients.
- Assess patients fitness to undertake an operation before the surgery takes place.
- initiate anaesthesia, providing safe pre-operative, during and post-operative care using anaesthetics and pain management.
- work in a team of other health professionals to ensure patient wellbeing.
- perform administrative tasks in areas which relate to the care of patients, including summaries of patient treatment and the writing of discharge letters
- attend multidisciplinary team meetings both on and off-site
- participate in an agreed on-call rota and take on an equal share in providing emergency cover
Requirements:
- Medical Doctor with Diploma in Anaesthesia or Anaesthetisiology specialisation.
- Valid Registration with HPCSA
- Over 6 months of Anastehtsia experience in a busy hospital.
- Good communication skills.
- Team-player
- Flexible to work in insecure context.
