It serves as South Africa’s economic powerhouse and is home to the only stock exchange in the country, the Johannesburg Securities Exchange (JSE). The municipality is a Category A municipality, granting it exclusive executive and legislative power over its area. The municipal council consists of 270 councillors elected by a mixed-member proportional representation system. The city’s administration is decentralized into seven regions (A to G), each responsible for community-based services like healthcare, housing, and libraries. Residents can use e-services and a dedicated call centre to report problems and perform council-related business.

Stipend:
- R10 109.86 per month โ for applicants who have completed a qualification (minimum 360 credits)
- R3 500.00 per month โ for applicants currently enrolled as students
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in:
- Graphic Design
- Computer Graphics
- Visual Arts
- Marketing
- Web Design
- Or a closely related creative field
- Knowledge of:
- Adobe Illustrator
- InDesign
- Photoshop
- After Effects
- Premiere Pro
- Toon Boom and other relevant design tools
- A strong understanding of design principles: colour, typography, layout, style, size, and digital/print composition
- Must be a resident of the City of Johannesburg
Primary Function
The intern will support the Communications & Stakeholder Management Unit by:
- Creating and incorporating graphics into digital platforms and City branding
- Producing original design concepts, layouts, illustrations and infographics
- Overseeing design projects from briefing to final delivery
- Preparing high-quality print and digital materials
- Supporting multimedia, interactive, and communication campaigns
- Liaising with various Group Finance units to support communication objectives
