The mission of the National Credit Regulator (NCR) is to support the social and economic advancement of South Africa by regulating for a fair and non-discriminatory market place for access to consumer credit; and promoting responsible credit granting and credit use, and effective redress. The NCR's mandate is to: promote and support the development of a fair, transparent, competitive, sustainable, responsible, efficient and effective consumer credit market, and to increase participation of historically disadvantaged persons, low-income persons and communities, and remote, isolated or low-density populations and communities in the consumer credit market; regulate the consumer credit industry by registering credit providers, credit bureaus and debt counsellors, payment distribution agents, and alternative dispute resolution agencies; enforce the provisions of the National Credit Act; undertake research on the nature and dynamics of the consumer credit market in order to increase knowledge of these matters; promote public awareness of consumer credit matters; and review legislation and report to the Minister of Trade and Industry on matters concerning consumer credit.

About the Role:

The National Credit Regulator is seeking a motivated Junior Industry Analyst to join our team. This role involves conducting economic analysis of the consumer credit market, monitoring credit trends, and analyzing various credit products. If you have a passion for statistics, economics, or finance and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in analyzing statistics returns from credit providers, insurers, and debt counselors.
  • Monitor trends in credit, consumption cycles, pricing, competition, and credit products.
  • Analyze credit life insurance and asset insurance data.
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders to gather and provide insights.

Required Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of the National Credit Act (NCA).
  • Proficiency in statistics and economics.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements.
  • Knowledge of short and long-term insurance acts.
  • Familiarity with various credit life and asset insurance policies.
  • Knowledge of the personal insurance market.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong financial analysis and research skills.
  • Effective organizational and relationship management abilities.
  • Computer literate and detail-oriented.
