Western Cape Government: free, accredited construction Trainineeships 2025. The WCG Department of Infrastructure, in partnership with the Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) and accredited training providers, offers structured skills development programmes to empower youth with technical expertise in the construction and built environment sectors.
These initiatives address youth unemployment by providing practical skills, formal qualifications, and real-world work experience to improve employability or enable entrepreneurial ventures.
Available Training Opportunities
Training is offered in the following trades and specialisations:
- Bricklaying
- Plastering
- Plumbing
- Painting
- Tiling
- Carpentry
- Health and Safety in Construction
- Civil and Building Construction (NQF Level 3)
These are delivered as 12-month learnerships or skills programmes, combining classroom learning and practical site exposure.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be unemployed youth aged 18–35
- Be South African citizens residing in the Western Cape
- Have at least Grade 10 (some trades may require Matric)
- Not be currently enrolled in any other education or training programme
- Demonstrate a strong interest in construction and infrastructure
Preference may be given to:
- Historically disadvantaged individuals
- Women pursuing non-traditional construction roles
- Persons with disabilities
