Job Purpose

  • To cook, prepare and plate meals according to customer specifications and hygiene standards.
  • The role is also responsible for maintaining continuous cleanliness and confirming that all equipment is in good working order at all times.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Prepares ingredients and basic dishes according to recipes, menus and portion control standards
  • Prepares dishes on time and maintains consistent food presentation standards
  • Assist in mise en place and daily production requirements
  • Checks and confirms the availability of stock according to menu requirements
  • Minimises wastage according to effective portioning, stock rotation and approved procedures
  • Monitors storage temperatures and reports any deviations to the CPD immediately
  • Conducts daily, weekly and monthly stock takes
  • Maintains a clean and sanitized workstation in compliance with HACCP and food safety requirements
  • Adheres to all security, SHEQ, HACCP and operational policies and procedures
  • Uses PPE and equipment safely according to training received and approved procedures

Qualifications & Experience

  • National Certificate (NQF level 5) in Hospitality / Professional Cookery / Kitchen Management
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience as a Commis Chef / Cook
  • Experience in airline catering will be advantageous
  • Basic Food Safety and Hygiene Certification
  • Valid driver’s licence will be advantageous
