Learnership Description

The Dispensary Support Learnership is designed to train learners to successfully complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification. Learners will be employed on a fixed-term contract as Dispensary Support staff while completing the learnership and working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances
  2. Assisting with the compounding and preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved SOPs
  3. Unpacking, merchandising, and maintaining cleanliness of dispensary and OTC shelves
  4. Accurately interpreting prescriptions under pharmacist supervision
  5. Picking, packing, labelling, and checking medication for accuracy
  6. Managing stock levels, expiry dates, and dispensary organisation
  7. Assisting with patient follow-ups, call centre scripts, and service calls
  8. Supporting scheme authorisations for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication
  9. Promoting health by providing basic, approved information to customers

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Pure Mathematics
  • Physical Science or Life Science
  • A minimum average of 50%

  1. Proficiency in English and a second language (read, write, speak)
  2. Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
  3. Good time management and deadline-driven approach
  4. Excellent communication and customer service skills
  5. Problem-solving ability and teamwork

  7. Basic computer and numerical skills
