TCTA is a state-owned entity, established in terms of Government Notice No 2631 in Government Gazette No 10545, dated 12 December 1986. The notice was replaced by Government Notice 277 in Government Gazette No 21017 dated 24 March 2000, promulgated in terms of the National Water Act, 1988(Chapter 10).
The Trans-Caledon Tunnel Authority (TCTA) Bursary for the 2025 academic year is now open for applications! This bursary program aims to support academically deserving students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds who wish to pursue undergraduate degrees in certain fields.

Bursary Benefits:
The TCTA bursary will cover:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed books
- Learning tools
- Accommodation and meals
- Monthly allowance for living expenses
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Citizenship: South African citizen
- Age: Under 35 years old
- Matric Status: Currently in Matric (2024) or already completed Matric with University entrance
- Matric Results:
- Minimum 60% for English, Science, and Mathematics
- If already studying, a minimum of 65% in all major subjects
- Field of Study: Full-time studies towards one of the listed undergraduate qualifications
- Tertiary Institution: Must be studying at or accepted to study at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
- Financial Need: Total household income of less than R350,000 per annum (before tax)
- Other Funding: Not receiving any other bursary or sponsorship funding
- Family: Must not be a child or close relative of a TCTA employee
