The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality is a Category A municipality situated on the east coast of the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It includes the major towns of East London, Bhisho (the provincial capital), and Qonce (formerly King William’s Town), as well as the large townships of Mdantsane and Zwelitsha. It is the second-largest regional economy in the Eastern Cape, with key sectors targeted for development including the auto sector, agro-industry, and the ocean economy.

This is a 2-year internship aimed at developing young financial professionals by providing intensive exposure to municipal finance, budget planning, revenue management, expenditure control, and treasury operations. The internship is housed under the Directorate of Financial Services and offers a competitive annual stipend of R100 000.

About the Finance Management Internship

This structured 24-month programme is designed to equip graduates with practical financial management skills aligned with municipal governance and public sector finance legislation. Interns will work closely with senior financial officials, gaining end-to-end exposure to key financial processes and annual reporting cycles.

Requirements

To qualify, applicants must have:

• Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) Degree in Accounting OR
• National Diploma in Accounting
