South African National Parks (SANParks) is the organization responsible for managing South Africa’s 19 national parks. Established in 1926, its primary mandate is to oversee the conservation of the country’s biodiversity, landscapes, and heritage. The organization promotes nature-based tourism to both local and international visitors. The income from these commercial operations helps fund conservation efforts.

A fixed term vacancy for 6 months currently exists for one (1) Receptionist at Addo Elephant National Park. Reporting to the Duty Manager. The successful candidate will have to provide their own accommodation and transport as there is no official accommodation in the park.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Std 10) or equivalent
  • NQF level 5 in Office Management and Technology/Office Administration/Secretarial Studies.
  • 2-3 years’ work experience at the Front Office in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry, working as an office administrative work or office assistant.
  • 1-2 years’ experience as a receptionist/switchboard operator in a tourism or hospitality environment would be desirable.
  • Good telephone, people, and administration skills as well as sound interpersonal skills
  • Computer literacy with a working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel – Provide proof.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities but not limited to:

Office Management

  • To receive and direct telephone calls where specified and to relay telephone messages timeously.
  • Effectively communicating with guests and providing them with information about facilities and activities at Addo Elephant National Park.
  • Welcome visitors in a friendly manner and process the computerized guest reservation through the check-in and check-out process.
  • Receive and notify employees timeously about documents and deliveries.
  • To raise any extra charges and to ensure outstanding monies are collected and processed according to company policy.
  • To assist guests with amendments to reservations and special requests and closing work shifts on SANParks reservation system.
  • To coordinate guests’ requests and complaints and handle them efficiently.
  • To perform general administration relevant to the Reception and Entrance Gate
  • Conduct ad-hoc administration duties as and when requested by the Duty Manager.
  • Manage bookings for visitors.
  • Conducting Gate Official / Gate Administrator duties from time to time as and when needed.
  • To adhere to company dress code and protocol.

The remuneration package includes a basic salary, based on the salary scale of a position with a Paterson B5 job grade and allowances and benefits as specified in the HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Services of SANParks.
