Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) invites graduates to apply for Laboratory Assistant Internships at Arcadia Campus, Tshwane University of Technology, Gauteng.

TUT’s SAMRC Unit and the SARChI in Phytomedicine are offering two full-time (40 hours/week) internship positions for recent graduates eager to gain hands-on experience in a laboratory research environment. The interns will support postgraduate students, researchers, and lab operations while learning about cutting-edge phytomedicine techniques.

Internship Responsibilities

As a Laboratory Assistant Intern, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting lab researchers and postgraduate students with experimental techniques and lab equipment.
  • Stocking reagents, monitoring equipment, and ensuring safe chemical disposal.
  • Maintaining laboratory tidiness and safety compliance.
  • Handling purchase orders and technical service follow-ups.
  • Logging and storing plant materials and scheduling equipment maintenance.
  • Performing tasks as assigned by the Research Chair or Senior Analysts.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate Diploma or Honours Degree (NQF Level 8) in Life Science, Health Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Molecular Biology.
  • Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Prior experience with chromatography, mass spectrometry, and extraction techniques is advantageous.

Required Skills:

  • At least 1 year of laboratory experience.
  • Knowledge of chemical substances, health & safety protocols.
  • Technical lab competence and ability to multitask.
  • Skilled in operating specialized lab equipment.
  • Strong organizational and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficient in English (spoken and written).
  • Computer literacy and communication skills.
