Purpose of the Role

If you are a talented Business Analyst you will join our dynamic Sanlam Corporate IT team in Bellville, Cape Town. The role will give you exposure to the retirement, investment and group risk industry. You will report to the Platform Owner and work closely with the Product Owner in assisting the team in meeting their objectives in terms of business continuity while driving innovation and client centricity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand business requirements.
  • Determine, map and document ‘As-Is” processes and then define “To-Be” processes.
  • Business engagements and work closely with all stakeholders across IT and business.
  • Ensure that the business needs are defined and that the most appropriate solution is selected and implemented.
  • Works in an agile environment to determine and deliver epics, features and user stories.
  • Maintains the agile backlogs accordingly.
  • Defines business cases as required.
  • Defining and executing test cases and facilitates business acceptance testing.
  • Active member in delivery/agile sprint – Epic/Feature/user story articulation and delivery.
  • Leverage SAFe practices and Agile methodologies to facilitate requirement gathering, backlog refinement, and user story creation; experience in these frameworks will be highly advantageous for driving collaboration and delivering value in an iterative manner.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Matric.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification/certification in IT.
  • Relevant Development Certifications: Agile and/or BA Certifications are highly advantageous.
  • 3-5 years hands-on business analysis experience.
  • Insurance industry experience required (preferably within an Employee Benefits and Group Life     environment).
  • 2 years’ experience working in an agile environment.
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Scripting knowledge (advantageous).
  • Jira, Miro & Confluence (advantageous).
  • Mathematical and statistical modeling for pricing and forecasting. (advantageous).
  • Strong understanding of financial mathematics and insurance product structures.
  • Experienced in interpreting actuarial inputs and translating them into business-friendly pricing logic for group risk and retirement products.
  • Adept at using tools such as Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables, solver), SQL and data-driven     decision-making.
  • Exposure to regulatory frameworks (FSCA, TCF).
  • Familiarity with calculation engines or rules-based systems (e.g. Corticon).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Business Requirements: Ability to gather, document, and validate business requirements, ensuring alignment with business goals and system functionalities.
  • Map Out Requirements with Business: Skilled in collaborating with business stakeholders to map out detailed requirements and drive features from concept to delivery.
  • Drive Features End-to-End: Experience in managing the development and implementation of features, ensuring they meet business expectations throughout their entire lifecycle.
  • Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to identify issues, analyze root causes, and develop effective solutions to improve business processes and system functionality.
  • Process Mapping: Proficient in creating and interpreting process maps to identify inefficiencies and suggest improvements.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Strong communication skills to effectively facilitate discussions, document requirements, and present updates to stakeholders.
  • Quality Assurance: Experience in implementing quality assurance processes to ensure systems meet business requirements and compliance standards.
