Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and Control equipment and process
  • Performs the pre-start inspection routine & shutdown routine on all primary & secondary packing machines in the relevant area.
  • Performs machine and product changeovers, includes cleaning of machinery and machine set-up.
  • Operate dedicated equipment in a semi or fully automated processing environment where the product is differentiated by range, quantity, volumes, type of raw material and work in process.
  • Feeding of consumables.
  • Process monitoring.
  • Selected adjustments.
  • Start-Up equipment
  • Operate equipment.
  • Shut down processing equipment.
  • Report downtimes, incidents and events to seniors.
  • Communicate shift objectives, problem-solving solutions and production plans to internal suppliers, shift supervisor and other identified stakeholders
  • Completes all relevant documentation to required standard and incorporates improvements where necessary
  • Records line stoppages and breakdowns for troubleshooting and discussion with team members and reports to seniors
  • Completes handover of activities & events after the shift
  • Completion of any delegated tasks by superiors
  • Record waste
  • Ensure that the product quality of the output meets acceptable customer standards, organizational requirements and product specifications
  • Conducts quality checks of in process material, and or finished products according to set quality standards (QC at source)
  • Check input material according to specifications or workplace procedures
  • Accepts or rejects material based on these checks (against set quality parameters)
  • Perform first line maintenance on equipment
  • Assists in the development and implementation of SOPs for maintenance and operations
  • Conducts behavioural safety observations
  • Adheres to key KPI’s
  • To receive input materials per organisational procedures and specifications
  • Ensures availability and efficient storage of material
  • Ensures rejected material is uplifted or reworked
  • Carries out stock rotation
  • Non-conforming finished goods are identified, placed on hold and NCA raised
  • Matric (maths & science) or equivalent (N3)
  • At least 12 months of relevant training is required
  • NQF3 packaging/processing qualification
  • Working knowledge of Autonomous maintenance – AM steps 0, 1, 2, & 3 and Problem Solving Skills
  • Manufacturing Loss Cost Approach
  • Focused Improvement Tools (7 step Kaizen and Change over Kaizen)
  • Ancillary Packing Equipment
  • Main Packing Equipment
  • Shrink wrapping
  • Fork Lift driving
  • Clerical tasks
