The eThekwini Municipal Artisan Development Programme offers exciting training opportunities for young people who have a genuine interest in pursuing a career as qualified artisans. The programme provides practical and theoretical training in various engineering trades, preparing learners to complete a formal trade test and qualify as Artisans in their chosen field.
Duration: Up to 3 years, depending on the trade and training requirements.
The training includes both on-site practical experience and institution-based theoretical learning, as required by the relevant SETA/QCTO and the National Artisan Moderating Body (NAMB).

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen with a valid ID document.
- Be a resident of eThekwini Municipality (proof of residence required).
- Be unemployed and between the ages of 18 – 35 years.
- Must not have previously participated in a similar apprenticeship programme.
- Have passion and interest in the applied trade.
Educational Requirements:
Candidates must have one of the following:
- Minimum N2 certificate (including relevant trade theory subject), OR
- Technical/Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science/Engineering Science and relevant trade theory subject, OR
- Relevant N6 certificate or National Technical Diploma (S or N stream) related to the applied trade.
Key Programme Details
- Apprentices will undergo medical, verbal, and written assessments as part of the selection process.
- Successful candidates will sign an Apprenticeship Agreement and receive training both on-site and at an accredited training institution.
- On successful completion of the programme, apprentices will be eligible to complete a trade test to qualify as an Artisan.
