The department’s main administrative offices are located in Elsenburg, with other regional offices throughout the Western Cape. The Department of Agriculture is committed to unlocking the potential of the agricultural sector to enhance the economic, ecological, and social wealth of the people of the Western Cape.
The Western Cape Department of Agriculture is offering 30 internship opportunities to unemployed youth who have completed Grade 12 in the province. The 12-month internship aims to empower rural matriculants by equipping them with workplace experience, professional exposure, and training within the agricultural public service.
Successful candidates will be placed in one of the following district municipalities:
- Cape Winelands District Municipality
- Central Karoo District Municipality
- Garden Route District Municipality
- Overberg District Municipality
- West Coast District Municipality
Interns will receive a monthly stipend of R5 639.64 – R6 659.36.
This programme is specifically designed for youth from rural areas and is open to candidates entering a government internship for the first time.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen residing in the Western Cape
- Must have completed Grade 12 in the Western Cape
- Current Grade 12 learners may apply (final acceptance depends on passing Matric)
- Must be between 18 – 24 years old
- Must be applying for a government internship for the first time
- Applicants from the targeted rural areas will receive preference
- Females and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply
