The Barberton Fairview Mine is a gold mine located near Barberton, Mpumalanga, South Africa. It has been in operation for over 130 years and is part of the larger Barberton Mines complex, owned by Pan African Resources. Fairview Mine is one of three underground mines in the Barberton Mines complex, along with Sheba and Consort mines. The town of Barberton was founded in 1884 following the discovery of a rich gold reef, sparking a gold rush. The area is part of the Barberton Greenstone Belt, which contains some of the Earth’s oldest well-preserved rocks. 

The Engineering Learnership Programme at Barberton Fairview Mine provides learners with structured theoretical and practical training, equipping them with essential engineering skills within a mining environment. This opportunity allows participants to gain hands-on experience under professional supervision, with the potential to qualify as certified artisans upon successful completion.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • South African Citizenship (proof required).
  • Matric certificate with Pure Mathematics and Physical Sciences.
  • Minimum 60% pass rate in both Mathematics and Physical Sciences (no failed subjects).
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Leadership, supervisory, and teamwork abilities.
  • Basic computer literacy (advantageous).
  • Security clearance certificate confirming a clean criminal record.
  • Valid Barberton Mines Medical Fitness Certificate within 21 days of accepting the offer.
