National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is the agency of the South African Government responsible for instituting and conducting criminal proceedings on behalf of the State.

Its mission is to ensure justice for victims of crime by prosecuting without fear, favour, or prejudice, upholding the Constitution and the rule of law. The NPA is headed by the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), a position currently held by Shamila Batohi. The NDPP is supported by four Deputy National Directors of Public Prosecutions and various specialised business units.
General Requirements for All NPA Internships
Applicants must meet the following:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Have no criminal convictions or pending cases.
- Be unemployed and never have participated in an internship programme before.
- Must submit a fully completed and most recent Z83 application form (available from DPSA website or government departments).
- Must attach a comprehensive CV.
- Only shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit certified copies of qualifications.
